Ashaiman has taken a significant step forward in public health with the successful launch of the “Ashaiman Rising in Good Health” Campaign, a major Ghana Month initiative aimed at tackling the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the municipality.

Held on Thursday, 26th March 2026, the launch marked the beginning of a 12-month, community-wide health intervention focused on early detection, improved healthcare access, and stronger health education. The event brought together key stakeholders, community leaders, and residents under the theme:
“Healthy Ashaiman: Early Detection, Healthy Living, Stronger Communities.”

A United Front for Community Health
The campaign is championed by New Crystal Hospital, in partnership with the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly (ASHMA) and the Ashaiman Municipal Health Directorate, with strong support from traditional authorities, religious bodies, security agencies, political leaders, and the media.
The launch was chaired by the Chief of Ashaiman, Nii Annang Amui Adzor III, and graced by key dignitaries including the CEO of New Crystal Hospital, Dr. Wisdom Amegbletor, the Ashaiman MCE, Freeman Tsekpo, and the Municipal Director of Health Services, Dr. Sophia Quist, among others.
Their collective presence underscored a shared commitment to improving health outcomes and addressing preventable diseases within the municipality.

Why This Campaign Matters
Ashaiman’s rapidly growing population continues to face a rising burden of NCDs such as:
•    Hypertension
•    Diabetes
•    Kidney disease
•    Obesity
Many residents also remain uninsured or have inactive NHIS coverage, limiting access to timely healthcare.
This campaign directly addresses these challenges by combining screenings, improved insurance access, and public health education—a holistic approach aligned with global recommendations from the World Health Organization on combating NCDs through prevention and early detection.

What the Campaign Offers
Residents of Ashaiman can benefit from:
1. Free Mass NCD Screening
Screenings for hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and kidney diseases—fully funded by New Crystal Health Services.
2. NHIS Registration & Instant Renewal
Making healthcare more accessible through active insurance coverage.
3. NHIS-Covered Treatment
Individuals diagnosed during screening will receive treatment and medications covered under NHIS, supported by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
4. Intensive Public Health Education
Health education delivered through:
•    Community durbars
•    Health talks
•    Local media platforms
•    Digital campaigns
5. Professional Medical Support
Provision of medical personnel, equipment, consumables, and clinical supervision to ensure quality care.

Bringing Healthcare Closer to the People
To ensure accessibility, free screenings will be conducted across all seven zonal councils in Ashaiman every Thursday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm:
•    Amui Adjor Zonal Council – March to April 2026
•    Gbemi Zonal Council – May to June 2026
•    Blakpatsona Zonal Council – July 2026
•    Tsinaigbe Zonal Council – August 2026
•    Manmomo Zonal Council – September 2026
•    Mantseman Zonal Council – October 2026
•    Nii Man Zonal Council – November 2026
This structured rollout ensures wide coverage and convenience for residents across the municipality.

Expected Impact
By December 2026, the campaign aims to:
•    Screen over 50,000 adults aged 40 and above
•    Improve early detection of NCDs
•    Build a reliable health data system to guide interventions
•    Reduce preventable medical emergencies
•    Strengthen trust between communities and health institutions
•    Promote a healthier, more productive Ashaiman

The Role of Early Detection
Health authorities, including the World Health Organization, emphasize that early detection is key to reducing complications and deaths from NCDs. Many of these conditions develop silently, showing little to no symptoms until advanced stages.
Regular screening and timely intervention can significantly improve quality of life and reduce healthcare costs.
