EVANOVA
Description
Evanova, a compound prepared from 33 herbomineral and non-hormonal active ingredients, has been shown to be effective in relieving the acute symptoms of menopause and without side effects.
Researchers in India suggest that Evanova can be used as an alternative to hormone replacement therapy (HRT), especially for women for whom HRT is contraindicated or who are reluctant to take it.
The main ingredients in Evanova include: ashoka, which controls abnormal and excessive secretions; jeera, which has demonstrable estrogenic activity; and, chandan, which acts as an anxiolytic agent.
The research team studied 66 menopausal women, aged 40 to 52 years, attending an outpatient gynecology clinic in Bangalore. Patients in the prospective study were treated with either Evanova, conjugated estrogens, or estriol.
All were followed up at three and six months.
The three therapies were found to be equally effective in relieving a range of vasomotor and psychomotor symptoms: hot flushes, paresthesia, anxiety, fatigue, depression, somatization, headache, palpitation, insomnia, and irritability.
Evanova and estrogens were equally efficacious in relieving specific symptoms such as vertigo, vaginal dryness, pruritus vulvae in the small number of patients who experienced them.
The researchers note that Evanova provided benefits comparable to estrogen, without the demonstrable side effects of HRT.
They suggest long-term, controlled studies are needed to determine Evanova’s effects on cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis.
